Olga Polyakov
Research Scientist
B.S., University of Maryland (1997)
Olga came by her foreign sounding name quite honestly, being born in the former Soviet Union country of Ukraine. Her family settled in Baltimore, MD, when she was 4, which is where she was raised and educated. After completing her Bachelors degree in environmental science at the University of Maryland, Olga
moved to California. What was initially meant to be a summer job, turned into a 6-year residency in California with jobs in Marine Science Education and Oceanographic Research at UCSB.
In 2003, Olga left California and embarked on a journey that can best be described as the yearlong summer weekend. After being unemployed for a year and a half and traveling on an around-the-world ticket, Olga returned to Maryland and began searching for a job.
Since February 2005, Olga has been working in the lab group of Eileen Hofmann at CCPO. She assists in the development of a numerical model of shellfish populations, analysis of temperature measurements of Antarctic waters, and educational Outreach projects.
