Two specimens from the CTD bottle samples collected at station 48 have been stained with acridine orange and magnified 200X under epifluorescent illumination aboard the N.B. Palmer. The pill-like organism is a Corethron, a 60 um diatom, and the star-like one has not yet been identified (Photo by Philip Alatalo).
