Today aboard the Nathaniel B. Palmer, at Station 23, we lowered the CTD to 3635 meters. This will be one of our deepest casts. Scientist decorated Styrofoam coffee cups and sent them to depth in a bag attached to the CTD. The air voids in the Styrofoam compress under the pressure leaving the cup a quarter of its original size (Photo by Kristin Cobb).
