The N.B. Palmer’s shadow passing a large iceberg in the late afternoon sun while surveying in the most southern part of the Southern Ocean GLOBEC grid. Sunny weather, heavy sea ice, very large icebergs, and a bit of open water were present. Temperatures during the day ranged from -9ºC to -15ºC (15 to 6º Fahrenheit) (Photo by  Kevin Bliss).
