The CTD (Conductivity, Temperature, Depth recorder) carousel is lowered into a pool of water alongside the N.B. Palmer. The CTD carries instruments that collect physical and biological data throughout the water column from the surface to the ocean floor. The gray tubes on the outside of the carousel are bottles that can be triggered to collect water for laboratory analysis at specific depths (Photo by Kendra Daly).
