Tidal Survey Implementation Course for Hydrographers
(Formerly scheduled for 15-19 October 2001)

Presented by the Cooperative Institute for Coastal Physical Oceanography: a collaboration of the Center for Coastal Physical Oceanography (CCPO) at Old Dominion University and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Ocean Service (NOS).
The instructors are Mr. Stephen Gill and Ms. Kristen Tronvig, NOAA/NOS.
Purpose of the course:
To cover the full "pipeline" of functional areas required to implement tides and water level support in the process of satisfying hydrographic survey specifications and deliverables for vertical control. Includes project planning, tides and water level measurement, data processing, tidal datum computation, and tidal zoning.
The course will focus on classroom exercises in collection of data from a short-term water level station, processing the data, computation of tidal datums, tidal zoning, and application of the data and products to a survey.
Intended audience:
For managers and technical staff of private and public agencies involved in hydrographic surveying to support nautical charting. This includes companies seeking federal contracts and state agencies with local charting projects.
Cost of the course:
$1300 per person. Payment must be received
by October 1 or a late fee of $100 will be assessed. Participants
will be awarded Old Dominion University Continuing Education credit.

The course will be held at the NOAA Western
Regional Center at Sand Point, Building 9, on the northwestern
shore of Lake Washington. Passes will be arranged
for daily entrance to the NOAA site. Cafeteria facilities
are steps away from the classroom. Parking
is plentiful and free.
